Should we have a RP backstory to our guild?

Yes (suggest something fun!)

No d00d, pvp all ze way.
0(0.0%)
Neither (explain in comments)
3(60.0%)

How active do you want this guild to be?

Very active. I want guild RP events and PVP raids and pre-mades.
0(0.0%)
Keep it casual. I'm in too many guilds as it is. Some events here and there, pvp when I feel like it.
3(60.0%)
It should be a mostly social guild. Everyone does things their own way.
2(40.0%)

Finally, I have most of the founding members as officers now with invite powers and the like. Please indicate if you wish to remain one or not.

Yea, sure fine with me.
5(100.0%)
GAH! I'm not officer material! I'd rather be a member for now, thanksverymuch.

If I think of more, I'll make another post or something. Please respond! :D EDIT (because I care): Please, please, PLEASE keep in mind that none of these rules are set in stone. This is a collaborative DotH (et al) effort and I will only institute policies and rules that most of us can agree on. Yasura is not DICTATOR (although a cigar and a beard might look fitting on me). :D

Our backstory should be one of complete and total chaos, changing from day to day. The rule should be, no day's backstory should be the same as the last.

I nominate that today's backstory be:

We are Zetans searching for new victims in the world of Azeroth, because the accursed 'interweb' has, unfortunately, given warning to the planet Earth, so we must seek out new worlds.

Unfortunately, in early experiments, orcs and, uh... delicate probings... were a very bad combination. Loss of life for our side was tragically high. Thus the low population of our guild at the moment.

But we will prevail!

In response to the rules in the user info, all of them are fine with me, save for the one with that the potential member must have an LJ account. My thinking is that if you have a married couple or SO pair in the guild, only one of them needs to have the LJ, since the one that does will likely inform the other one. (I say this because my hubby wants in the guild, but never uses his LJ and has forgotten the password.)

RP backstories for the guild aren't really needed, if each character RPs it so they have a reason for joining us.

Other than those, great work!

In the interest of keeping things consistent and fair, I'd like to have the LJ requirement stick. Not everyone has their SO in their household and since this community is member's only there is no way of commenting or providing input without a Livejournal account. There is no requirement to actually update the livejournal and they are free to acquire. Theoretically, your SO could poke you endlessly to sign him up for things, but I'd think everyone is self sufficient enough to sign up for their own runs. ;P But that's just my two cents.

An RP backstory is not needed at all. However, some members might find it useful to have one if they are stuck in terms of finding a way to RP their character or providing a backstory for themselves. (One suggested idea has been that we are a band of pirates (and on occasion ninjas) seeking fame and fortune in the lands of Azeroth. Something like that. :D)

Respectfully, I disagree with you that the LJ requirement needs to stick on couples that live in the same household. I can see it if the members of the couple live seperately, but not if they live together. I view it as one more reason to actually talk to my husband, rather than just let him read it for himself, but others may not agree with the way I do things in my home. Chris had taken over Bertram from me, and I had invited him into the guild today, but after talking your reply over with him, we'll be leaving the guild later today. I have no hard feelings about this, and I wish you guys the best, but as this can be considered drama, I'll go ahead and leave now, rather than mess up again later. Good luck with the project!

Before you get hasty, I'd just like to remind you that none of the rules are set in stone just yet. I appreciate everyone's input even if it differs from my own. It's not drama to have a difference of opinion. :) That said, if you still wish to leave the guild, I wish you the best and I'll see you in DotH. :D

Okay, so first let me say I'm very very surprised to see anybody walk away from a one day old guild because of problems with one day old rules.

Second, Yas brought up this question with me pretty much as soon as we bumped into each other. She didn't mention names, and I hadn't looked back at this post to see other's comments, she just asked if I felt that requiring an LJ was a good idea or not. I fell on your side of the argument because I felt that the guild really isn't big or unwieldy enough that it's going to cause an issue. As long as the community exists to state the rules and guidelines for joining and such, I feel that's enough for now. Especially since it was a guild started on a whim, based in silliness, and really, hardly "srys bzns". I recognize that she is modelling the system after DoTH based on "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but as DoTH is large enough that stricter requirements are needed - well, in short, we had a long discussion about it and it *still* isn't set in stone either way.

In short, it's totally up to you to stay or go, obviously, but... I don't know, I guess I just feel like there was a lot more room to work out the issue before such a definite move.

Well, level 5 is not all that hard to get back, and Chris had not even started on Bertram. At this point though, since I already deleted the character, I'll wait to see the rules when you do get them ironed out before asking for an invite back in.

In terms of backstory, I don't really have an opinion. XD I think that's probably something that'll differ from person to person. :)
Yesenia - Miss Apathyxmelodic_spellx on February 1st, 2008 05:46 am (UTC)
Yea, it's a fun thing to think about. If there's not any big push for an RP backstory, we can leave it up to each person to be creative and I'll post some examples of interesting backstories (from RP forums) to help people that are having creative blocks.
